Dr. Jonathan Crane has been obsessed with fear ever since he was a child. He was a professor of psychology at Gotham City University. His experiments were too dangerous so he lost his job due to terror of his patients and students. He became evil and and used various drugs, chemicals, and devices. He took the name "Scarecrow" which the bullies gave him as a boy. And would use it to become one of the most feared criminals of Gotham.
